Background: Wiki Link
Personality: You know, with a name like Greed, it shouldn't be hard to guess what his most dominant trait is. Greed wants everything. And I do mean everything. Money, power, status, sex, glory, whatever you can think of, you can be sure that Greed wants it. His eventual goal is even to rule the world, giving him everything he wants.
On top of all of this, he's a blunt jerk. He doesn't sugarcoat anything he says and has no problems insulting people. He calls things like he sees them and doesn't really care what people think of him.
He's also egotistical. With greed as his defining trait, it's no surprise that he's selfish. It's this selfishness, in fact, that led him to betray Father and the rest of the homonculi, as he wasn't interested in being some pawn and wanted to whatever he liked. He's not a follower and refuses to answer to someone else. Even if this means dying, which it did at one point.
He can also be prideful and even vain. He doesn't use his Ultimate Shield to protect himself completely often, as he dislikes covering his 'handsome' face, to use his own words.
But he's not necessarily a bad guy and he has his good traits. For one thing, he doesn't lie. He's not a schemer or a manipulator, he's very up front about what he wants. And he's not a backstabber either, so long as you don't try to get in his way, at least.
Also, unlike the other homonculi, who are either actively cruel or don't know any better and are just guided by their destructive instincts, Greed doesn't go out of his way to hurt people. He simply takes no pleasure in killing people and states outright that he has no interest in fighting women. Even when his memories are wiped and he temporarily becomes loyal to Father, when he ends up killing one of his old friends, it's not because he wants to. He even stresses that it's nothing personal.
It's not quite right that Greed really cares. But while the other homonculi consider humans insignificant and below them, Greed doesn't seem to care one way or the other and he has no problems keeping human followers around. He even takes surprisingly good care of them, though he doesn't exactly consider them friends. They're his possessions. So his greed extends even to the way he sees people. Don't try pointing out to him that he can be nice, though, as he'll be the first to tell you that he's not. He tries his best to keep up his act of being a complete jerk, even though he really isn't.
He can be fairly friendly to his 'possessions' and even encourages them to pursue what they want. He likes it when people are greedy. While most would consider this a bad thing, Greed is the first to point out that there's nothing wrong with greed. It's not good, but it's not bad either. It's just wanting. It doesn't matter what someone wants. It can be getting rich, it can be becoming powerful, it can even be protecting someone important or having friends.
Despite the fact that he says he wants to rule the world, this isn't actually what he wants. It takes him the whole series to finally admit what it is he really wants, but it's not material possessions at all. In the end, what Greed wants the most is to have friends, just like humans. He's not very experienced with having friends, so it's not until he actually dies, while sacrificing himself for that matter, that he admits who his friends are and that he got everything he wanted after all.
Abilities: All homonculi get special healing abilities, thanks to the philosopher's stone inside them. Any injury they get will heal pretty much immediately, even if it should be fatal. Even being completely incinerated is something they can heal from. However after dying enough times, the regenerative abilities of the philosopher's stone will wear out, killing them off for real.
Each homonculus also gets their own special power and Greed's is the aptly named Ultimate Shield. He can rearrange the carbon in his body, meaning he can make his skin as hard as diamond. When he does this, his body changes appearance, with the protected areas becoming a black color. He doesn't have to cover his whole body and can choose how much he covers. Rather than fight with weapons, he prefers to cover his arms in his shield, turning his hands into sharp claws.
Also, just as he can make his skin as tough as diamond, he can also go the other way, making his body as fragile as carbon's weakest form, graphite. He doesn't use this much, for obvious reasons.

Third Person Sample: Imagining your family dying probably isn't the healthiest way to spend the night, but really, healthy isn't a good word to describe any of the homunculi. Greed was just more honest about it.
Of course, it wasn't like his family was exactly a normal family. He might not be human, but he at least knew that most human siblings wouldn't kill their brother's friends and then kill their actual brother a few dozen times just to deliver them back home. Normal dads didn't melt down their kids for their most valuable part and then drink them. So it wasn't as if imagining their gruesome demises made him feel bad. Really, it made him feel pretty damn good.
And it wasn't like he had much to do at night. Missing sleep wasn't gonna kill him, so he was the default lookout at night. What was he supposed to do, listen to Ed snore? Yeah, no thanks.
And talking to Ling, well... Nah. Why should he talk to some annoying prince? Seriously, what an annoying kid. Always having to be right. He respected his greed and all, but that didn't mean he wanted to stay up and have a freaking heart-to-heart with him.
He was... a means to an end. Just needed to remind himself of that every now and then.
No, thinking about how he was going to rip Wrath's head from his body... Now that was a nice way to spend the few hours before their little group moved on.
Though he had to admit, it was kind of funny how Ling also had a bone to pick with 'Mr. High and Mighty' and his ultimate eye. Small world. 'Course, the kid hadn't shared too much about what exactly his beef was, but it wasn't like he cared much. Either way, he was gonna be the one to make the old-timer pay.
"You might need my help for that, you know!"
...Greed narrowed his eyes. Of course the idiot prince had heard that part. The whole sharing a body thing was kinda new still. He kept forgetting not to think so loud.
Well. Sharing in general was kind of new for him, really.
"Yeah, I really doubt that," he shot back, keeping his voice low so he didn't wake anyone. "You just let me handle this, I know what I'm doing. I've got about two centuries of experience on you."
"And how did that work out for you the last two times?"
...
He didn't answer that one, but he could almost feel Ling's smug grin.
This is exactly what he meant before. A stupid brat that just always had to be right. Of all the people to get stuck with, it had to be someone obnoxious like that.
But the worst part of it... he actually was. The last times he'd faced Wrath hadn't ended well for him.
Damn it.
...Like hell he was ever gonna ask anyone for help, though. Not with this. He'd... figure it out. Somehow.
